Why Reporting Bed Bugs Matters

Why Reporting Bed Bugs Matters
Bed bugs aren’t just a personal problem — they’re a community health issue. When infestations go unreported, they spread. Fast.
While cities and landlords often downplay the scope of the issue, people living through it know better. But without widespread, updated, and accessible data, it’s easy for the problem to stay hidden.
This site exists to bring visibility to what’s often ignored — by gathering and mapping both user-submitted and media-sourced reports.
Why should I report?
- You’re not alone. Many renters feel ashamed or isolated, but infestations are increasingly common — especially in multi-unit housing.
- Accountability matters. When enough reports surface about a building, landlords and property managers can’t hide behind deniability.
- Prevention works. Travelers, movers, and renters benefit from shared knowledge. One report could save someone from a months-long infestation.
What we collect
Each report includes:
- The location
- Whether it’s from a user or a news source
- When it occurred
- Optional notes with additional context
We’re building a living dataset — one report at a time — to help people make informed decisions and see patterns that would otherwise stay buried.
What about resolved cases?
We’re exploring ways for users to flag infestations that have been dealt with, so the map can reflect current risk levels more accurately.
